Blue Hoeksemai Acropora
The Blue Hoek's Acropora (Acropora hoeksemai), often simply called Hoek's Blue or the "King of Blue Staghorn Corals," is a highly sought-after aquacultured small polyp stony (SPS) coral from Indonesia's turbid, protected bays. This staghorn variant has been a staple in mariculture since the early 2000s, prized for its vivid blue coloration and fast growth in silty, shallow waters. It's a favorite among advanced reefers for its "classic Indo" vibe and ability to dominate SPS displays.
Appearance
- Coloration: Iconic royal blue skeleton with darker blue corallites (side polyps) that create a textured, almost metallic sheen. Polyps are small and pale, adding subtle contrast, while the overall blue intensifies under actinic/blue lights for a glowing, ethereal effect.
- Structure: Classic staghorn form with upright, finger-like branches that grow densely and compactly, often tabling slightly at the tips. The porous skeleton is lightweight and fast-growing, with spaced-out axial corallites (tip polyps) giving it a refined, less bushy profile than wild stags.
