The Purple Dragon Eyes Acropora (Acropora sp., Dragon-type lineage) is a premium, aquacultured small polyp stony (SPS) coral strain with a dedicated following in the reef aquarium hobby, originating from selective breeding for its eye-catching "dragon eye" polyps and robust branching form, making it a dynamic addition to advanced SPS displays.
Structure: Classic dragon-type morphology with thick, upright finger-like branches that radiate in a bushy, fractal pattern, forming compact, vertical colonies that evoke a mythical dragon's claws—chunkier than slender Acros for added resilience.
Coloration: Deep purple-blue corallites and skeletal branches contrasted by striking bright green polyps that resemble glowing "dragon eyes," especially under actinic lighting where the greens fluoresce neon-intensely and the purples deepen for a dramatic, iridescent effect.
Size and Growth: Frags typically start at 0.5-1 inch, with moderate to fast growth rates once acclimated, capable of forming 4-6 inch tall colonies in 6-12 months; it recovers swiftly from frags but can be delicate initially.
