Red Branching Cyphastrea
The Red Branching Cyphastrea (Cyphastrea sp., often C. decadia or C. serailia lineage) is a hardy, aquacultured large polyp stony (LPS) coral strain popular in the reef aquarium hobby for its vibrant red hues, compact branching form, and forgiving nature, making it an ideal "gateway" coral for beginners transitioning to stony corals.
Appearance
Structure: Grows as short, bushy branches emerging from a thin encrusting base, with small, tightly clustered corallites (polyps) that form a bumpy, honeycomb-like texture; colonies develop a compact, mounding shape rather than tall or sprawling growth.
Coloration: Bright red to strawberry-pink polyps dominate, often with a contrasting green or brown skeletal base that peeks through; under actinic or blue-enriched lighting, the reds fluoresce intensely for a glowing, jewel-like effect, while polyps extend fully to reveal subtle white edges.
Size and Growth: Frags are typically 1-2 inches across, with moderate growth rates that can produce 3-5 inch colonies in 6-12 months, propagating easily via fragging.
Sold in 1-2” X 1-2” frags.
